Welcome or welcome back, depending. This week I’d like to expand on a subject we touched on before. My first blog focused on creating a marketing schedule for the year to help you grow your business. In that blog I asked you to include all of your marketing efforts for the year (direct, social, etc.). And although making sure that you have a game plan is great, I’ve still done you a disservice. Because the fact of the matter is not all marketing is for everyone. So to optimize your success you really need to focus your advertising based on a few factors.

Last week we focused on Kiribati, a small island in the Pacific. Our final destination, Dominica takes us to the Caribbean.
Dominica was founded in 1493 by Christopher Columbus, who named it after the Latin for Sunday – the day of the week the country was discovered. It is located in the Eastern Caribbean and is quite tiny -only 290 square miles. Dominica’s main industry is the export of bananas; however they are trying to build their tourism industry. So get to this up and coming vacation destination before it becomes a crowded tourist mecca.

Hello again. We’re taking a break from our regularly scheduled programming to talk about what it really means to be a travel agent. When I talk to people about what I do (marketing and business development for a company that supports travel agents) I often get the same response –Do people use travel agents anymore? Now if this was 2008 when the economy exploded in the worst way I would say no. But that’s because people weren’t really traveling. But today between increasingly difficult travel rules and regulations and an upturn in exotic travel, using a travel agent’s services is more popular than ever.

Kiribati (pronounced Kir-ĭ-bahss) is a group of 33 coral atolls separated into groups –the Gilbert Islands, the Phoenix Islands and the Line Islands. If you’re planning on sending your clients there, I would suggest doing so soon, since climate change (whether you believe in it or not), dwindling fresh water reserves, overpopulation and pollution are all driving the island closer to extinction. Also be prepared, the island as a whole is poor so your clients should expect to see a lot of people living in poverty. Despite these issues, Kiribati has plenty of positive experiences to offer visitors.
